D-War… easily the coolest movie I’ve seen in some time!

OK. This is a movie I had been following for a few years. It is a very fun film from Korean director Hyung-rae Shim. I wasn’t expecting much, but I love a good giant monster movie, probably MORE than the next guy.
I didn’t see it in the theater, but did buy it when it came out on DVD.Tara and I sat down last night and popped it in. The hell with Cloverfield…Holy crap. This movie was so much fun we had our jaws hanging open through most of it! The movie centers on an ancient Korean legend, about unknown creatures that will return and devastate the planet.
Reporter Ethan Kendrick is called in to investigate the matter, and he arrives at the conclusion that a girl, stricken with a mysterious illness, named Sarah is suppose to help him. The Imoogi Baraki (the ass-kicking badguy dragon) makes its way to Los Angeles, wreaking havoc and destruction. The movie kicks into high gear at this point, and without wanting to spoil anything, at the point where the evil dragon Baraki attacks our heroes on top of a skyscraper, five Apache attack helicopters open up on it with their miniguns.

At this point Tara starts to grin and leans over to me and says “OK. Wind that back and turn the Harmon Kardon ALL THE WAY UP this time.” (That is our custom surround sound system she is referring to)

Look, this movie isn’t a deep, philosophical brain-buster of a move. It’s one hundred and seven minutes of a ‘dragons vs. the military vs. ancient Korean armies of the undead’ whoop-ass special effects extravaganza.

All of you snooty movie-haters and armchair film experts out there have forgotten how to have a good time. Relax, make some popcorn and turn up the surround sound system. Oh, and tie your jaws closed. We just re-did the carpet. Five stars for complete ass-kicking.

end of line.
