Fox the Kitten

These pictures chronicle Fox as he grows. The newest pictures are at the bottom! And here is a link to Fox’s Catster page!
“Here is young Fox.
He plays in his box.
He steals our socks,
And carries small rocks.
On his sisters, he’s a pox,
And he likes to eat lox.
From the School of Hard Knocks,
He tips over our clocks.
(He’s named after Mulder, and sits on my shoulder)
The Amazing Mr. Fox!”

Tara found this little guy in a shopping center parking lot last Wednesday. We took him to the vet, who said he’d pull through with a little TLC. We thought that was the end of the story, and that we had 4 cats now…
The kitten took a MAJOR downturn Friday morning. We found him lying on his side, unresponsive, not breathing and cold. Tara thought he was dead. Needless to say, I was pretty much hysterical. I lifted him up to give him a kiss goodbye, and (miracle of miracles) he suddenly sighed and coughed!
We rushed him to our 24 hour emergency animal hospital where they intubated him, put him on an IV drip and kept him in an incubator. They weren’t hopeful. He was 6 weeks old, 1 pound. He was so far gone with malnutrition and dehydration and ten other problems that even though he looked OK Wednesday and Thursday, he was actually dying.
I was pretty much miserable all day Friday, waiting for the inevitable death call from the hospital.
THEN…
…we got a call from the hospital Friday night, saying the kitty was actually breathing on his own, and moving around! They still weren’t very optimistic, but they were working on him 24 hours a day. We got another call on Saturday, saying he was walking around, beginning to eat, and meowing! They actually couldn’t believe it!
We visited him Saturday afternoon, and he looked so much better! They called us Sunday morning and said “Come take him home!” We couldn’t believe it.
We hand-fed him Sunday and all day and night Monday. He sleept on a heating pad for two weeks. We administered two different antibiotics and a wormer. The little tough guy had a terrible case of roundworms, fleas, ear mites, dehydration, malnutrition and an upper respiratory condition. He’s recovered from ALL of them, with flying colors!
When I left him with Tara that morning, he was lying on his back, eyes bright. I went to rub his belly, and he grabbed my hand and started nibbling and attacking me, playfully, of course! He has made a stellar recovery. After all of this, we’ve decided to keep him in the family. He lived in the Studio for two months until he was tested for the most dangerous feline diseases, which we now know that he doesn’t have! He has joined our general population.Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes! We know they helped him survive.
